- In the wake of its announcement that several CMMB (China Multimedia Mobile Broadcasting) -enabled TD-SCDA phones separately provided by Hisense and Coolpad had passed a network access test conducted by MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), CATR (China Academy of Telecommunication Research) of China's MIIT confirmed that these two companies have received the first batch of TD-SCDMA/CMMB network access licenses, the Sohu IT News reported on December 31.

In late November, 2008, China's SARFT (State Administration of Radio, Film and Television) officially kicked off the second phase of CMMB commercialization, which was set to cover 100 to 120 prefecture-level cities by December 31. To date, the MIIT is yet to grant network access licenses to CMMB-enabled CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) and WCDMA (Wideband Code Division Multiple Access) phones.

The second batch of CMMB-enabled phones, which are currently under inspection, include phones provided by ZTE, Eastcom, Lenovo, Hair, New Postcom, and Samsung, according to the same source. In related news, it is said that the second batch of network access licenses are likely to be issued in mid-January, 2009.
